THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF SCIENCE!

DID YOU KNOW?

--People always thought that cats and dogs were colorblind. But recent research shows they can see blue and yellow. Some insects can see colors in the ultraviolet range, which is invisible to us.

--The first electric lamp was made in 1860 by Joseph Swan. He and Thomas Edison later made a lamp with a carbon filament called an "ediswan" lamp.

--Millions of years ago, as the continents drifted toward their present positions, India crashed into Asia. As a result of this great collision the Himalayan mountains were formed. The rocks between the two land masses were forced upward, and the ancient seafloor ended up at the top of the Himalayas.

--"Mary had a little lamb." Yes, this was the first recording of human speech made by Thomas Edison in 1877.
