Trivia
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BASEBALL?
1. With a runner on first and third with two out, the batter hits a hard
grounder to the first base side of second base. The second baseman
reaches
out to tag the incoming runner who evades the tag by running outside the
basepath. He is called out but not before the run scores.
Does:
- The run score but the inning is
ended?
- No run scores and the inning is
ended?
- All of the above!?!?
2. In what situations can one player be called out twice on the same
play?
- If he is forced out and tagged on a
base.
- If he bats out of turn and hits a fly
out.
- If he hits the ball which is a pop
fly the hits him and, before it hits
the ground, is caught???.
- It can't happen.
3. A player steals both second and third while the improper batter is at
bat. That batter ends up getting on base. The opposing
manager appeals to the umpire pointing out that he batted out of turn.
Does:
- The runner has to go back to first
and the batter who is now on first
called out.
- The runner can stay on third while
the runner on first is called out.
- he runner stays on third and so does
the runner on first while the
proper batter is called out.
- The proper batter takes the place of
the the runner now on first who is
called out. The runner stays on third.
4. Runners are on first and second and they receive the double steal
sign.
The runner on first gets a late start so the batter
purposely interferes with the throw to second. Nevertheless, he is
thrown
out. What happens?:
- The whole play is called back.
- The batter is called out and runners
must return to their base.
- Both the runner and batter are
called out.
- The runner is called out but the
batter remains at bat with a strike.
5. Is it legal to run the bases backward at any time?:
- Only if you hit a solo
homerun.
- Only if you also run backwards.
- You never can.
- Your entire team must follow.
6. With a man on first, the batter hits a foul into the crowd.
Should:
- The runner retag first?
- The runner talk to the first baseman
about the game?
- The opposing coach appeal, saying he
didn't retouch the bag?
- The runner not have to touch the
bag?
7. The bases are loaded and the batter hits a grounder to the first base
side of second. The runner loses his helmet running to
second and the ball hits it and bounces into center. That runner
advances
another base to third and two runs score. Does:
- The ball remain in play and the runs
score?
- It becomes a "do-over"?
- The runner get called out along with
the batter?
- The runner get called out?
8. A grounder rolled into the left field corner and the left fielder
throws
his glove at it to stop the ball. What happens?
- The ball remains in play?
- The batter recieves an extra
base.
- It counts as a ground rule double?
- Every runner may advance three
bases?
9. Now here's an odd one. During "Old Uniform Day" at Riverfront Stadium
in
1992., the players were wearing baggy uniforms
from the 1930's. Barry Larkin is hit a grouder by Fred McGriff.
Strangely,
it goes up Larkin's sleeve and he begins wiggling
and patting his shirt trying to get it out. How is this ruled?
- He now can just tag any runner with
the use of his chest.
- If the runner has already rounded
first, he may advance another base.
- All runners may advance one base
without liability of being put-out.
- It counts as having control of the
ball, but just can't find it,
therefore all runners must hold.
10. Do all fielders' gloves have to meet certain specifications? If so,
what
are they?
- Yes. Must be brown or blue in color.
- No.
- Yes. Must have a circumference of no
more then 38 inches.
